INTRODUCTION Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan had set up a task force in 1994 to suggest a specific course of action for the strengthening of Primary Education in the Kendriya Vidyalaya. This Committee made some recommendations with an emphasis on joyful learning through an activity base approach. Accordingly the K V S has adopted the activity based approach for teaching at the Primary level, together with a system of grades for assessing the child’s performance. The aim of assessment is to improve the child’s capability rather enforcing retention in the same class. To ensure a smooth transition from the home environment to the Primary school, a “School Readiness Programme” of 6 weeks duration has been developed and adopted. At the end of the programme the teacher may assess if the desired behavioral outcome has been achieved in the following areas Recognition of the environment Confidence Observation Pattern copying Correlation

1. To inspire the
children to learn, the following methods of learning are implemented viz
Activity, eliciting, demonstration, visit to neighborhood and regular
contact with parents.
2. For class
I and II continuous comprehensive evaluation of light cycles are carried
out.
3. For class
III to V questionnaire, worksheet on difficult concepts, assignment tests,
evaluation sheets, unit test, quarterly projects and exams are carried out
4. The
primary computer room is equipped with LCD projector, a computer with
broadband connection, white board and colour marker for the better
learning of the tiny tots.
5. Class
library is equipped with new good quality books.
6. Class
room supervision by H.M and Principal followed by discussion with the
subject learning is going on.
7. School
level CCA competitions, assembly programmes and various sports
competitions are carried out to nurture the talents of non- scholastic
ones at the early age. Cluster level CCA Competitions are also carried out
in connection with ‘Bal Divas’ for the better exposure of students of
the young age.
8. Grand Parents day was celebrated on 27th Nov inside the Vidyalaya campus. Sri U.C. Panda retired Principal was the chief guest for the Celebration . Near about 275 grand parents had attended the function. Guests and invitees were greeted with rose bud. News letter of Primary section was unveiled by the Chief guest. A cheques of 29300 was given to Helpage India on behalf of the Vidyalaya. 9. Quarterly
cluster level programmes were conducted to assess the progress of
achievements of the learners.
10. Twenty
percent of the session ending examination answer scripts were re-evaluated
at cluster level.
11. To ensure
child friendly curriculum, block periods are introduced for each subject
once in a week. Two teacher system in classes I and II , three teacher
system in class III and IV and four teacher system in class V are also
introduced.
12. Children
are given chances to view documentary films of educational value
fortnightly.
13. The key
area in Primary Education is language efficiency of the child. To develop
the ability to speak well, weekly two periods of spoken English are
introduce in classes I to V.
