Applique in Orissa is an old temple art , which has been refined to perfection. A fine example of the craft is the enormous applique canopies above the reigning deity of Puri , Lord Jagannath . Applique art is the process of cutting coloured cloth into shapes of animals , birds, flowers, leaves and other decorative motifs and stitching them on to a piece of cloth that can ultimately be used as a lamp shade , a hand bag or even a garden umbrella . The village of Pipli , 40 kms. from Puri , is the site of beautiful applique work, created by artists, quite a few of whom have won national awards for their crafts.
RAGHURAJPUR :-
The artists' village of Raghurajpur , 16 km from Puri , is famous for its Pattachitras created by traditional chitrakaras , who have for centuries , also churned out palm-leaf etchings with exquisite detail . Quite a few of the craftsmen are winners of national awards.
SAKSHIGOPAL :-
Sakhigopal is 20 km from puri is famous for Radha Krushna temple . It is also famous for Satyabadi bana vidyalaya and bakulabana.

Nandan Kanan A short distance from the capital city, Bhubeneshwar, the Nandankanan zoo lies in the splendid environs of the CHANDAKA forest , along the ripling water of the KANJIA LAKE.It also contains a botanical garden and part of it is has been declared a santuary.

One of the rarest creature in the World , the regal white tiger ,received the new lease of life with the important reaserch and concereted efforts initiated to try and breed then in the natural invirons of Nandankanan . 1980 on a day full exitement and jubilation, the first litter of White tigers were born to Deepak and Ganga , to twany tiger . Subsiquent litters of white tigers have been distributad to zoos both at home and abroad.Currently, Nandankanan is home to over 34 white tigers.

The White Tiger Safari , established in 1991,offers visitors the heady exitement of viewing the rare white tigers from specially designed protected bushes.

Dhauligiri Shanti Stupa near Bhubaneswar is well connected by rail, road and air
After traveling a distance of 7 KMs from Bhubaneswar towards Puri ( or Konarak ) one can see Dhauligiri Shanti Stupa at the right side ( on Dhauli hills ) just after crossing Daya river bridge. From this point on Puri road (also known as Jaganath road ) the Shanti Stupa distance is 3 Km.
This Dhauli Shanti Stupa is also known a Peace Pagoda

Construction of Stupa
Pandit Jawaharlala Neheru laid the foundation stone of first Shanti Stupa in Bihar state at Rajgiri in the year 1969. After this the then Governor of Bihar Sri Nitya Nanda Kanungo decided to establish second Shanti Stupa at Dhauligiri in Orissa State . He formed Kalinga Nippon Buddha Sangh and became the chairman. Fujii Gurujii along with his young disciples helped in building the Stupa. Nipponzan Myohoji happily beard the entire cost considering it as a offering to Lord Buddha. This Stupa was ready in two year time and got inaugurated on 8th Nov 1972.
Historic Importance of Dhauligiri
It was here at Dhauli by the side of Daya River that emperor Ashok laid down the weapons of violence and accepted a life of Ahimsa in the form of Buddhism after the Kalinga war. This stupa as selected by Fujii guruji is a symbol of peace for the future generation to come.
